One of the
highlights of the project was the "Face To Face" meeting that
took place on Thursday, April 14th. There was great excitement and talk
about the trip during the weeks leading up to the event.Children from Scoil
Eoin spoke to their partners from Legamaddy, Co. Down,at length, about the
upcoming trip - via video conferencing.Through video conferencing the pupils
had previously interacted with each other in a very real and visual manner,so
the groundwork for the meeting of the two groups had already been done.
On Thursday the 14th.pupils from Scoil Eoin set off for Dublin by train
while our friends from Co. Down set off by coach. We both met in Dublin where
the children met each other in real life , for the first time.Pupils from
Scoil Eoin boarded the Legamaddy coach, the children chatted and laughed
while we set out for our first stopof the day - Dublin Zoo.
The zoo was a great hit with the kids and it provided great opportunities
for the children of both schools to chat and get to know each other .From
there we went to visit Croke Park - a fantastic visit for anyone who travels
to Dublin. Here the children got a tour of the entire complex, the dressing
rooms,the stands,the pitch,the corporate boxes, the museum....etc. and of
course the gift shop, where many items were bought. Plans for some outdoor
matches at St. Patrick's Training College had to be shelved due to the rain.
The kids were disappointed about this but it didn't spoil their day. We
then headed for Mc.Donalds where we all had a bit of a party. It was now
5.30pm and time for us to be heading for our different corners of the country. The
coach dropped us back to Hueston Station, where we said our goodbyes and
set out on our long journey home.
The whole project has been such a tremendous success that we have decided
to extent it for another year.
Thanks to everyone in Legamaddy and to everyone involved in the Dissolving
Boundaries team(who are funding the project)for the wonderful day and the
wonderful memories . |
