8. Revised Curriculum Staff Inservice:

The Department of Education & Science will extend the introduction of the Revised School Curriculum this year. History and Geography are the two subject areas being targeted.There will also be further implementation of the Physical Education programme.
The following in-service days will be held during the current school year:
• History – two days
• Geography – two days
• P.E. –two days
• School Development planning - one day.

Therefore the school will be closed for seven days during the year.
Dates already confirmed:
November 16th. – History
December 9th. – School Development Planning

Scoil Eoin has introduced the Revised Curriculum in Irish, English, Maths, Social, Personal & Health Education (S.P.H.E.) and Visual Arts. Music,
Social, environmental and scientific education (S.E.S.E) and P.E .are being introduced during this school year.

9. Parent-Teacher Meeting:

Departmental regulation changes require a different schedule for P/T meetings. From now on meetings will be held on a “Half time in/half time out” basis. (ie. 12 noon to 6pm.) Details of parent teacher meetings will be issued later.

Teachers wishing to speak to parents prior to this will organise meetings with you, as the need arises. Likewise any parent with concerns are encouraged to speak to your child’s teacher. Please phone for an appointment, prior to your visit, so that class supervision can be organised.

10. Appointments:

You are very welcome to visit the school Principal/class teacher at any time but it is important that you arrange a time so that proper supervision of the class can be arranged, while you are meeting with the teacher. All appointments are to be made through the principal’s office.

11. Homework:

It is important that parents check pupils’ homework each night. It is school policy that homework be signed each night.

12. Tin Whistle (Optional)

Children (1st-6th class) have the opportunity to learn to play the tin-whistle during school time, if they so wish. Classes have now begun. Regular daily practice is very important if your child is to progress and enjoy playing tin whistle. Encourage and listen to your child playing.


13. City Music College:

The City Music College has a centre for music here at the school. Violin, piano and flute are taught. Theory lessons are also given. All queries concerning any of the above mentioned should be directed to:

15. School Book Grant:

Each year the Department of Education & Science gives a grant towards the cost of schoolbooks. Eligibility for this grant is based on the following criteria:

• Unemployment
• Prolonged illness of parent
• Large family with inadequate means
• Single parent family
• Any other special circumstance
