Scoil Eoin Newsletter - November 2005

READaTHON:
Our READaTHON is now coming to an end. I hope your children have enjoyed this reading experience. The main aims of the READaTHON are: 1. To encourage and promote an interest in reading.
2. While enjoying your reading you can help other people – i.e. M.S. Research.
We suggest that € 5 (max & optional) will be the amount that children contribute. With nearly 200 children participating this will make a very worthy contribution.

Shoe Box Appeal:
Before Halloween leaflets were distributed throughout the school on “Christmas Shoe Box Appeal”. We are having a fantastic response and the shoe box pile continues to grow. If you wish to participate this year get your shoebox back to Scoil Eoin by Friday of this week.

Dissolving Boundaries Project:
This project, involving students of 5th class, continues this year. We are again linked up with the same school in Northern Ireland – Legamaddy, Co.Down. Students are working on projects together and are e-mailing each other. Their class teacher, Kevin Byrne got married at Halloween. Fifth class pupils from Scoil Eoin made a presentation to him via video link – a first for Scoil Eoin.. We hope to work on joint projects during the year using this link. Pupils from both schools will meet again this year, at a later stage.

First Communion Enrolment Ceremony
This year, for the first time, the First Communion Enrolment Ceremony will be part of the Saturday Evening vigil mass in St. Mary’s Church. It is hoped to make the communion of our second class children a community celebration. The ceremony will be part of the Saturday evening ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 21st.

School Warden:
The day of the Halloween holidays was Hylda's last day guiding your children across the road, coming to and going from school. Hylda has been our school warden for almost ten years. During her time as warden she has done a fantastic job. She rarely missed a day and was always there on time to ensure that your child got safely across the road. She knew every child by name and the children loved to meet her each morning. Her popularity was very evident, esecially at Christmas time, by the amount of presents she received from the children. Thank you Hylda for doing a fantastic job. Every good wishes in your new role in the school.

We welcome our new school warden, Colette Crowley.

School Book Fair:

The Parents Association of Scoil Eoin have organised a SchoolBook Fair. The Book Fair is open to the parents/public on today, Wednesday, November 9th 7.00pm - 8.30pm and on tomorrow night 7 - 8.30pm.
All are welcome. Tea / coffee will be served.
